Prasiolite Tumbled Stone. Also called ‘green Quartz’ or ‘green Amethyst’. Prasiolite is a pale green to yellow colour with some opaque white areas. From Brazil. Good to A Grade.

Geological:

Natural Prasiolite is a green variety of Quartz, a silicate mineral. It forms when Amethyst (purple Quartz) containing ferrous iron and iron hydrate impurities is exposed to pressure and high temperatures during crystallisation. Prasiolite was first discovered in a small mine in Brazil, which is where most material available is mined from, but pockets of Prasiolite have also been found in Poland and Canada.

Prasiolite is also artificially formed by heating or irradiating Amethyst. This form of Prasiolite is often sold as ‘Amegreen’.
