Yellow Opal Tumbled Stone.

These yellow Opal tumbled stones are a lovely sunshine to pale yellow, some with pretty little dendritic inclusions. Also known as Fire Opal. Lovely translucency and bright yellow colour! Nice, uncommon material. Good to A Grade.

 

Geological

Opals are a broad group of stones that are composed of Cristobalite, Tridymite, a combination of both, or amorphous Silica, containing 3-21% water within its structure. Gem opals (also known as precious or noble opals) usually have between 6-10% water and display a play of colour due to light refraction within the stone. 

Common opals lack the play of colour, and can be either opaque or glassy with a waxy lustre. Common Opals are often fluorescent, glowing under UV light. Fire Opal is the tradename given to translucent yellow, orange or red Opals. The “Fire” refers to their colour, not to a play of colour or light refraction effect.
