Jasper is any type of Chalcedony which is opaque (ie solid, not translucent, light doesn’t pass through the material). Jasper has many different known varieties. It can be a single colour, multicoloured, spotted, striped or speckled. It is pigmented by mineral inclusions, mostly iron oxides.

Picture Jasper refer to Jasper that forms in layers and patterns that look strikingly like scenery or landscapes. It is found in different parts of the world, notably Africa, Australia and Brazil. Different locations produce uniquely different colours and patterns.
