While not a rare earth mineral, it is somewhat rare to get these in stock. Great little uncommon oddity to add to your collection! Small tumbled stone of opaque, metallic black Cassiterite in a Quartz matrix. Size small to medium. You will receive one stone.

 

GEOLOGICAL

Cassiterite is a tin oxide. It’s been one of the most important sources of tin since ancient times and its name comes from the Greek ‘kassiteros’, meaning ‘tin’. In crystal form, its lustre and faces make a beautiful gem, and while usually an opaque metal, it can form thin translucent crystals. Cassiterite has a high density, making it heavy, and is around a 6-7 on Mohs Hardness Scale.
