Lovely chatoyant peach Moonstone, also known as Salmon Moonstone, polished crystal sphere. We love this material! From Madagascar. Very Good to A Grade. Size approx 6.5cm (diameter i.e. across). Weight approx 389g.

GEOLOGICAL

Hecatolite, tradename Moonstone, is an Orthoclase member of the Feldspar group. It gets its name for the ‘lunar’ glow sometimes present, a soft and watery opalescence that seems to float just under the surface. This sheen made the ancient Romans believe that the moon’s beams were frozen in the stone. The scientific cause is somewhat less romantic – light diffraction within the microstructure of Feldspar layers.

Peach Moonstone is a variety of Moonstone. It is a potassium aluminium silicate feldspar. The colour is usually a tan brown to a very light peach/pink.
