High quality miniature polished Lapis Lazuli crystal ball / sphere. Denim blue with white banding and gold flecks. Size approx 1.5cm. Weight approx 10g.

GEOLOGICAL

Lapis Lazuli is a rock composed of several minerals. Its distinctive blue colour comes from Lazurite, a silicate mineral in the Sodalite group. To be classified as Lapis, blue Lazurite must make up at least 25% of the material.

The second most abundant mineral present in Lapis is Calcite. It appears as white layers, fractures or mottling, or finely intermixed with Lazurite to produce a mottled faded denim colour. Pyrite joins the mix to add little golden flecks to the material. Other minerals that can be present include Sodalite, Hauyne, Wollastonite, Afghanite, Mica, Dolomite, Diopside and others.
