Smoky Quartz and Red Hematite Polished Point 5.5cm

A very cool, unique Smoky Quartz polished point with bright metallic red spot of Hematite included. The Smoky Quartz has beautiful whispy colour zoning looking like dark smoke twisting up through the point. Some veining, veils and low to medium translucency add to its interest rather than taking away from the overall piece. From Anjozorobe, Madagascar. Good to Very Good Grade. Size approx 5.5cm. Weight approx 177g.

GEOLOGICAL:

Smoky Quartz is a variety of Quartz that contains Aluminium and has been exposed to natural radiation in the earth, from radioactive rock around it. As the crystal is irradiated, the colour centers around the Aluminium in the Quartz are activated.

The material develops a smoky colour, variably ranging from a light smoky hue to almost opaque black (known as ‘Morion’ Smoky), and sometimes with orange to brown hues.
