Polished standing point / crystal tower. Very nice lilac to dark purple rich colour. In association with some peachy pink Moonstone. From Zimbabwe. A Grade. Size approx 14cm. Weight approx 342g.

 

GEOLOGICAL

Lepidolite is a member of the Mica family, and ranges in colour from a lilac grey to rose pink, to purple and even red and yellow hues. It is the most abundant Lithium-bearing mineral. Its name is derived from the Greek word “‘lepidos” for scale and “lithos” for stone. It was originally discovered in the Czech Republic.

Also called Hecatolite, Moonstone is an Orthoclase member of the Feldspar group. It is named for its lunar glow, often exhibiting a soft and watery opalescence that seems to float just under the surface of the stone. The sheen that led ancient Romans to believe the moon’s beams had been frozen in the stone is caused by light diffraction within the microstructure of Feldspar layers.

Peach / Pink Moonstone is a Microcline Satin Feldspar.
