Beautiful pristine white Howlite with grey veining. Polished into a large standing tower. In general, Howlite is graded according to colour. The greater the contrast in colour between the white to grey matrix and darker veins the higher the quality. The whiter the better and the darker and distinctive the vein-like patterns, the more exceptional. From Mozambique. Good to A Grade. Size approx 17.5cm. Weight approx 282g.

GEOLOGICAL:

Howlite was discovered in Nova Scotia 1868 by Henry How (1828–1879), a Canadian chemist, geologist, and mineralogist. Henry dubbed it Silico-Boro-Calcite. It was given the name Howlite by James Dwight Dana shortly thereafter. Howlite and Magnesite look virtually identical and have a similar low hardness, but are different chemically.
