Wow! This is the fairly newly discovered blue Rose Quartz material. Thus far there’s been very little material available. The colour varies from blue-grey to having a slight pink tinge with some beautiful Girasol-like opalescent areas. Polished standing point / crystal tower. Stunning. Thus far there’s been very little material available. From Tsaramanga Mine, Madagascar. Very Good to A Grade. Size approx 8.5cm. Weight approx 221g.

 

Blue Rose Quartz might sound like a misnomer and the name certainly kicked up some controversy – but we investigated and found THIS.

 

GEOLOGICAL

‘Blue Rose Quartz’ is the tradename that’s been given to a pocket of variably blue-grey-girasol-pink Quartz discovered in Madagascar. But many feel that since Rose Quartz means Quartz that is pink, calling something “blue pink” is somewhat non-sensical. We did a bit of digging (pun intended) before deciding to label it as such instead of simply ‘blue Quartz’:

 

An expert mineralogist on Mindat.org suggests that the colour and even the name confusion could be the result of Dumortierite:

• Rose Quartz massive generally gets its pink hue from inclusions of fibrous pink Dumortierite.
• While blue Quartz most commonly gets its colour from fibrous inclusions of Magnesioriebeckite or Crocidolite, it can also be from blue Dumortierite.

 

We also found a shop in the USA that say they’ve sent the material to the lab to be analysed, and confirm that it is indeed Dumortierite. Lab results are currently visible on their website HERE> Blue Rose Quartz Mineral Testing.

Therefore, it’s safe to suggest that both pink and blue Dumortierite is present in this Quartz deposit, creating “Blue Rose Quartz”.
