A very nice white to pale yellow Opal with excellent high visibility of dendritic inclusions. This is a rare, beautiful and highly sought-after material! Shaped and hand polished to perfection. From Madagascar. Very Good to A Grade. Size approx 3.5cm. Weight approx 18g.

GEOLOGICAL

Opals are a broad group of stones that are composed of Cristobalite, Tridymite, a combination of both, or amorphous Silica, containing 3-21% water within its structure.

Gem opals (also known as precious or noble opals) usually have between 6-10% water and display a play of colour due to light refraction within the stone. Whereas common opals lack the play of colour and can be either opaque or glassy with a waxy lustre. Additionally, they are often fluorescent, glowing under UV light.
