Silver Leaf Lepidolite One Side Polished RARE 6.5cm. 

“Best of both worlds” – polished on one side to beautifully exhibit the silvery shimmer of the material, with the remainder of the material is left natural. The leaf-like structure has a high silvery shimmer/flash. And the surrounding Lepidolite is richly coloured with deep purple hues. Some minor clear to Smoky Quartz in association.

This is an exceptionally rare find out of Zimbabwe and beautiful material. Good to A Grade. Weight approx 122g. Size approx 6.5cm.

 

Geological

Micas are a group of sheet silicates that form in distinct layers, called a phyllosilicate. The most common varieties of Mica include Muscovite (colourless to green, blue or brown), Lepidolite (pink to purple) and Biotite (black). The group’s defining feature is its ability to split into thin elastic sheets (perfect cleavage). Micas do not absorb heat or transfer electricity, making them useful thermal and electric insulators. Micas occuring as large crystals are often called books; these may measure up to several metres across!

 

Lepidolite is a member of the Mica family. It ranges in colour from a lilac grey to rose pink, to purple and even red and yellow hues. Lepidolite is the most abundant Lithium-bearing mineral. Its name is derived from the Greek word “‘lepidos” for scale and “lithos” for stone. It was originally discovered in the Czech Republic.

Silver Leaf Lepidolite is a beautiful form of Lepidolite which only comes up in very small quantities on the odd occasion! The material has been dubbed ‘silver leaf’ because it has the most vibrant almost bifurcating leaf like patterns in the material.
