Stunning polished Extra Rare purple Anhydrite hand-polished gallet. Also known as purple Angelite. Beautiful variable shimmering purple colour intensity, some gemmy areas. In association with peach Anhydrite and green Chrome Diopside. Highly collectable and very special!

GEOLOGICAL

Anhydrite is a beautiful, highly sought after and incredibly rare mineral. It generally occurs as clear, blue, purple or grey long bladed or short crystals in matrix. Anhydrite is a dehydrated form of Gypsum, hence its name from the Greek ‘an’ (without) and ‘hydor’ (water). Fascinatingly, it can revert to Gypsum when water is reintroduced, which is why this mineral is scarce.

The blue variant was discovered in Peru in 1987 and has been given the tradename ‘Angelite’. The purple variant has been found in Madagascar, often in association with Chrome Diopside (itself fairly rare) and peach to orange Calcite.
