Yellow Opal Natural Rough Piece. These extra-small rough pieces of Opal are a pale yellow to dark honey hues. Yellow Opal is also called ‘Fire Opal’ due to its colour. From Zambia. Grade Medium. Size approx 1-2cm.

GEOLOGICAL:

Opals are a broad group of stones that are composed of Cristobalite, Tridymite, a combination of both, or amorphous Silica, containing 3-21% water within its structure. Gem opals (also known as precious or noble opals) usually have between 6-10% water and display a play of colour due to light refraction within the stone.

Common opals lack the play of colour, and can be either opaque or glassy with a waxy lustre. Common Opals are often fluorescent, glowing under UV light.
