GEOLOGICAL

Idocrase, also known as Vesuvianite, was first discovered on Mount Vesuvius in 1795 by the famous mineralogist Abraham Gottlob Werner. It is usually translucent and green, yellowish green, or brownish green in color. Gem quality crystals are rare. Opaque Idocrase exhibits a greasy or resinous luster, while transparent to translucent materials exhibit a vitreous (glass-like) luster.
