These rough pieces are naturally formed nodules or part of nodules. Colour varies from rich orange-reds to pale yellow, with brown areas. Translucency levels vary across the material with some opaque areas. Medium to Good Grade.

GEOLOGICAL:

Carnelian is a variety of the silica mineral Chalcedony. It is variously brown, orange, amber to red in colour, and translucent. The colour is derived from the inclusion of iron oxide in the Chalcedony material. If there are bands present, it can be classified both Carnelian and Agate.

Carnelian has been used in history as far back as early Neolithic times!
