Beautiful natural crystal point of gemmy blue Topaz with minor staining and inclusions. Lovely little collector’s thumbnail specimen of a rare gem. Good to A Grade. From Spitzkop, Namibia. Weight approx 2.63g / 13 carats.

 

GEOLOGICAL

Topaz is a rare silicate mineral of aluminium and fluorine. In its natural state it’s colourless. While trace element impurities can make it pale blue, or golden brown to yellow orange. Topaz has a high specific gravity. Because of that, it’s often found in concentrated placer deposits. For example, the placer deposits in Brazil and Nigeria have produced much Topaz.
