Peachy-pink opaque to translucent piece of natural rough Petalite. Size approx 3cm. Weight approx 7g.

GEOLOGICAL

Petalite gets its name from the Greek ‘petalon’ for ‘leaf’, referencing its perfect basal cleavage. A major source of Lithium, Petalite ranges from opaque to translucent with a pearly lustre. The clear gemmy variety is very rare and highly prized among jewellers. While the more opaque material occurs in beautiful pale grey, white, yellow, lime and pink.

It’s often carved into statuettes and cabochons for jewellery. Pink Petalite from Namibia is especially famous for this.
