Lovely shiny little botryoidal specimen of metallic Goethite. In association with minor Malachite. Size approx 2cm. Weight approx 5g.

GEOLOGICAL

Goethite is an iron oxide in the Diaspore family. It gets its name in honour of Johann Georg Lenz (a German geoscientist) and was officially identified in 1806. It forms as a result of weathering of iron-bearing minerals. Collectable specimens include velvety botryoidal formations and more rarely, a variety of delicate crystal formations from acicular to bladed. Its colour ranges from a yellow-brown to black.
