Yellow Fluorite Cluster 3.5cm

Great little Fluorite crystal for collectors! This interesting specimen has a stepped-like formation with likely an ex-Calcite “pipe” extending from the base matrix. Unusual colour and formation! Good to Very Good Grade. From Namibia. Size approx 3.5cm. Weight approx 28g.

 

GEOLOGICAL

Fluorite is the mineral form of calcium fluoride, and belongs to the halide minerals. It can occur in natural octahedron and complex isometric forms, though it crystallizes in a cubic habit. Also known as Fluor Spar, it can occur in many different colours.

Optically clear, transparent Fluorite is used in microscopes and telescopes, due to low dispersion properties. Fluorite is often fluorescent under UV light. In fact, it was one of the first fluorescent minerals to be studied in 1852, and the word ‘fluorescent’ was named after Fluorite.
