GEOLOGICAL

Dolomite is a calcium magnesium carbonate. It is generally white to clear, but the presence of other minerals can create different shades. Small amounts of iron creates yellow to brown hues, while Kutnohorite creates pastel pinks. Named in 1791 in honour of French mineralogist Dolomieu. One of Dolomite’s most notable characteristics is its weak reaction to acid, useful in identifying it from Calcite who shares a very similar appearance.
