GEOLOGICAL

Celestite, also known as Celestine, got its name from the Latin word Caelestis, meaning “celestial”, which was inspired by the crystals’ delicate shades of sky blue. It was first discovered in Italy in the 18th century. Celestite is a mineral consisting of Strontium Sulfate, principal source of the element Strontium widely used in fireworks! The acicular crystal habit is particularly rare, mostly found out of Congo. Celestite crystals are graded based on shape, clarity and colour, as well as levels of intactness.

 

Manganite is a metallic mineral composed of manganese oxide-hydroxide. Named in 1827 by Wilhelm Karl von Haidinger. It can be found in various formations, including well-formed crystals (often tightly clustered and deeply striated), fibrous and botryoidal. Manganite is believed to have been used by Neanderthals as a fire starter. Since this mineral lowers the combustion temperature of wood from 350 degrees Celsius to 250 degrees Celsius.
