Clear Calcite Natural Rhombohedral Specimen.

Natural very cool rhombohedral formations of clear Calcite. Slightly cloudy with varying translucency and good cleavage. Lovely specimens! Completely clear specimens are called ‘optical calcite‘. Good to A Grade.

 

GEOLOGICAL

Calcite is a carbonate mineral and the most stable polymorph of calcium carbonate. It is colourless or white when pure. Calcite is best recognised by its relatively low Mohs hardness (3) and its high reactivity with even weak acids, such as vinegar. Natural rough Calcite feels smooth and ‘waxy’ to the touch.
