GEOLOGICAL

Smoky Quartz is a variety of Quartz. It contains Aluminium exposed to natural radiation in the earth (from radioactive rock around it). As the crystal is irradiated, the colour centres around the Aluminium in the Quartz are activated. The material develops a smoky colour, ranging from a light smoky hue to almost opaque black (known as ‘Morion’ Smoky), and sometimes with orange to brown hues. 

 

Hyalite Opal is an amorphous clear silica-glass that contains 3-8% of water. It can also be found in hues of white, cream and yellow depending on trace minerals present during formation. Hyalite Opal doesn’t show opalescence (fire/play of colour). Its party trick is displaying a fantastic bright green under UV light. Also called Water Opal or Muller’s Glass, its usually found as globular and botryoidal masses and crusts in volcanic and pegmatite environments.
