Complex cluster of translucent Smoky Quartz with great colour! Intersecting points and even a double terminated sceptre. Minor Orthoclase in association. On Smoky Quartz matrix. From Erongo, Namibia. Good to Very Good Grade. Size approx 9.5cm. Weight approx 137g.

 

GEOLOGICAL

Smoky Quartz is a variety of Quartz. It contains Aluminium exposed to natural radiation in the earth (from radioactive rock around it). As the crystal is irradiated, the colour centres around the Aluminium in the Quartz are activated. The material develops a smoky colour, ranging from a light smoky hue to almost opaque black (known as ‘Morion’ Smoky), and sometimes with orange to brown hues.
