Nice small green Prehnite crystals in botryoidal form. In a pretty clear Quartz cluster with Calcite in association. Overall a good representation of a classic Namibian combo. Lovely size for a cabinet display. From Tafelkop, Brandberg. Good to Very Good Grade. Size approx 12cm. Weight approx 383g.

 

GEOLOGICAL:

Prehnite is a calcium aluminium silicate mineral. It is usually a translucent light green colour, sometimes with tinges of white and yellow. It’s often found where Zeolites are found. Prehnite forms as stalactitic or botryoidal, usually curved, with just the crests of small crystals showing on the surface. Good specimens appear as rounded balls made of blades of translucent crystals.

Named in 1788 in honour of the Dutch Colonel governor of the Cape of Good Hope, Hendrik von/van Prehn who first discovered the crystal in 1774.
