Here is a list of crystals and minerals by name from A – Z that we stock at Mystic Crystals.

VARIETIES

Under varieties, I’ve chosen to include colours as well as collectable localities or other particular trade name specimens of note. This makes it easier for you to see what we stock and what occurs should you want to add to your collection. As a result, many of these are not varieties by geological standards. If you’re interested in learning the strictly geological varieties of a species or indeed want to expand your knowledge of any mineral from a geological perspective, I highly recommend visiting Mindat.org. It is a treasure chest of information.

AVAILABILITY

We don’t always carry stock of every item listed. This is especially true of the rarer species and varieties. But if it’s on the list, it means we do get it in whenever we can. Rarer specimens often get snapped up on the day that they are listed. To get ‘first dibs’, join our WhatsApp group to find out as soon as new stock arrives (see page footer for join link).

Museum Only

This is Mystic Crystal’s legacy project. Our vision is to build a visual A-Z encyclopaedia of minerals for people in our community and beyond to visit and learn from.

Note on Jasper:

MANY opaque rocks are incorrectly labelled as Jasper by mines / sellers. Jasper is the opaque form of Chalcedony. Its chemical composition is Si02 (silicon and oxygen), a silicate. An example of a commonly mislabelled stone is Dalmatian “Jasper”. It’s chemical composition starts with [Na][Na2][Fe2+4Fe3+]Si8O22(OH)2 and doesn’t end there. We do our best to notice and correctly label mistaken stones when we come across relevant lab results/trusted sources (such as Mindat.org and the German EPI).

Commonly mislabelled Jaspers include:

  • Dalmatian Stone (composed of Microgranite, Aplite or Rhyolite with Arfvedsonite, Feldspar & others),
  • Kambaba ‘Jasper’ (composed of Rhyolite with Quartz, Aegirine, Albite, K Feldspar, Amphiboles, Riebeckite),
  • Mookaite (composed of silicified PorcelaniteI / Radiolarite),
  • Dragon’s Blood ‘Jasper’ (Epidote, Piemontite)
  • Rainforest ‘Jasper’ (Rhyolite)
  • Leopard / Leopardskin ‘Jasper’ (Serpentine)
