GEOLOGICAL

Obsidian is a type of natural volcanic glass. It forms when molten rock material from a volcanic eruption cools so rapidly that atoms are unable to arrange themselves into a crystalline structure. Pure obsidian is usually dark, with colour variances due to different minerals present, usually an iron oxide such as magnetite.
